A graduate of New York University School of Law, Steve Kanzer leads venture capital group Accredited Ventures, Inc., as chairman and CEO. Outside of work, Steve Kanzer donates to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK).
MSK provides comprehensive cancer treatment at its main hospital in New York City and 23 outpatient facilities in New York and New Jersey. To support funding for rare types of cancer, the center hosts Cycle for Survival events, where individuals participate in teams of four to eight people in an indoor cycling relay ride.
First, individuals register as part of a team and raise money from donors. The minimum fundraising amount for a team to share a bike is $1,000, but the average amount raised per team is $5,000. Participants take turns on the bike, riding 50 minutes before changing riders.
Cycle for Survival events take place across the country in February and March. So far, the events have raised more than $100 million for cancer research. Within six months of each event, every dollar donated goes directly toward MSK’s research on rare types of cancer.
